Fiddler Crab
P4030212.JPG

One of my favorite things to do is to teach others to tie. This shot was taken at a clinic I taught for the local 4H fishing club.

One of my more difficult ties. The fidler crab with it's eight legs and two claws offered a significant challenge, considering all those limbs were tied to a fly less than 1 1/2 inches in size.

Golden Orb Silk Weaver

The Orb Weaver is a common spider along much of the Gulf coast and is often called a banana spider .I captured a live specimen for reference as I was tying this fly . Here is a photo of the live spider and my finished fly.

This photo shows the thread wraps in the construction of this fly. You can see what can be dome with deer hair thread and monofilament .  No modeling or sculpting.

The Red Paper Wasp is one of my favorite ties. These members of the vespid family are relentless defenders of their nest with a very painful sting.
